Aryan Khan, the son of Shah Rukh Khan, the “King of Bollywood,” has been released after being arrested in connection with a drugs raid on a luxury cruise ship.
Aryan Khan, a 24-year-old aspiring actor, and director was apprehended during the raid on the vessel off the coast of Mumbai in October.
He was released on bail three weeks later.
According to India’s Narcotics Control Bureau, no evidence linking him to the crime was discovered after an eight-month investigation.
However, 14 other people have been charged.
Following the raid on the ship, the bureau claimed that WhatsApp messages revealed Khan was involved in drug trafficking.
Fans in India insisted on his innocence, while others called for a boycott of his father’s films.
Mukul Rohatgi, Aryan Khan’s lawyer, told reporters that his client’s arrest was “arbitrary,” adding that
the bureau had not conducted a medical examination to determine whether his client had used drugs.
Shah Rukh Khan, 56, has appeared in over 100 films over the course of his nearly three-decade career.
